Paver patios start at roughly $30 per square foot, and our minimum for a patio install is $2,500. That is a starting point, not a quote, and the number only moves up from there.

Access

How close can we get a machine to the work, and what size machine can we use? A backyard we can drive into and a backyard we have to wheelbarrow into are two different projects at identical square footage.

Grade

Flat ground and a hillside are not the same build. Elevation change means retaining, and retaining means engineering, material and time.

Age of the property

Older properties bring settled grade, drainage problems, and utilities that are not where the plans say they are. New construction brings compaction issues of its own.

Material

The system you choose changes the number. We are a Belgard certified contractor and recommend Belgard on most patios because of the warranty behind it, but we will price whatever you want to build. Full breakdown on our pricing page.

The Part Under The Patio Is The Part That Matters

A paver patio is only as good as what is underneath it. Almost every failed patio we get called out to look at failed at the base, not the surface.

Central Pennsylvania freeze and thaw cycles are aggressive. Water that sits in an under-compacted base freezes, expands, and lifts the pavers above it. That is where the settled corners, the rocking pavers and the blown joints come from three seasons after installation.

So the base gets excavated to depth, the stone goes in and gets compacted in lifts rather than all at once, and the grade gets set to move water away from the house before a single paver is laid. None of that is visible in a finished photo, which is exactly why it is the first thing a cheaper bid removes.

What Happens To The Rest Of Your Yard

Honestly: it takes a beating. Machines have to reach the work and material has to be staged somewhere. We run ground protection mats where we can, but it is common to finish a patio and be standing next to a substantial area of bare dirt.
